blackbird by Gina Frisken

To write about Klaus Rabe’s death is to embark on a journey where one story leads to another. The tale starts in 1962, when my mother tells of a tale so horrific it was whispered.
It’s not until 2014 that I unearth the details of a murder-suicide that had stayed in my subconscious for decades.
There are so many unanswered questions and all I have are the whispers about a German migrant who killed his wife, his twin boys and it happened on Goodhope Street. No dates. No clues. Until a woman nearing her seventies unlocks the virtual door to what I now call blackbird.
